Reno Gazette-Journal: "Koble the right choice to unseat Amodei: Mulligan"
From the RGJ:
"During my 56 years as an American, I’ve been witness to some surreal and disturbing times — the Vietnam War, the Watergate scandal, 9/11, conflicts in the Middle East and many others. These bleak scenarios have lurked in the periphery as we’ve gone about our daily routines. To me, the Trump administration looms similarly today ... dark, acrid and omnipresent.
My plan for a solution is to do my small part by both making my voice heard and by voting. I’ll certainly be casting my vote for Trump’s opponent in 2020 if he’s able to outrun the long arm of the law for that long, but I also plan to vote against anybody else who I feel has been complicit or has enabled what I consider the most corrupt administration in American history. And, here in Northern Nevada, that includes Congressman Mark Amodei.
Not only did Amodei vote for the disastrous Republican tax scam, which robbed from the middle class to repay the billionaires of the donor class, he also voted to gut the ACA and rob thousands of Nevadans of their health care. Amodei is also a darling of the NRA and has failed to stand up for reasonable gun safety measures.
However, aside from these clear deficiencies, what we should perhaps focus on most is the fact that Mark Amodei was Donald Trump’s campaign chair here in the state of Nevada. Who in the state should we hold more accountable for depositing such an offensive impostor in our White House? Amodei, who seems to be in hiding these days (I wonder why?), must be held responsible.
After due diligence and candidate research, my choice to replace him is Clint Koble, who’s currently challenging five other candidates in the Democratic primary. Koble was appointed by President Barack Obama and served eight years as director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture here in Nevada. In that vital role, he worked with farmers, ranchers, Indian tribes and rural businesses, helping them get through drought and difficult times.
Early voting has already begun, with election day looming on June 12. The winner likely will go on to face Amodei in November for the honor of representing Northern Nevada’s District 2 in the United States Congress.
Because of his relevant government experience here in Nevada, I decided that Democratic candidate Clint Koble is the logical choice as replacement for Republican Mark Amodei. I also decided to join his campaign and do my part to help him get elected. I mention this in the interest of full disclosure, but I can assure you that I would have penned this same letter had I simply retained my status as just another voter.
Regardless of your political leanings or affiliations, I urge you all to vote in the June 12 primary and in November’s general election. These are dark days in America and it’s my belief that the remedy — and the light — is glowing in the voting booth."
