Statement on: Privatization
Reno: Clint Koble, Democratic candidate running to replace Congressman Mark Amodei in November, expressed concerns today about some of the issues raised by President Donald Trump’s Twitter-firing of Veterans’ Affairs Secretary Dr. David Shulkin earlier this week.
“My goal will always be to provide the most responsive care to our nation’s veterans in the most efficient way possible,” said Koble. “My fear is that the firing is alleged to have been prompted by those favoring privatization of veterans’ services. While I believe we have a way to go to make the VA more accountable, I object to turning it into a for-profit organization. I’m also concerned by allegations that Dr. Shulkin’s firing was in part a result of the Koch brothers’ interference in the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.”
Stars and Stripes and other news organizations report that officials with Concerned Veterans for America, part of the Kochs’ political network, have been recently moved into the VA and were at odds with Dr. Shulkin.
“One of my highest priorities in Congress will be to protect and care for those who have sacrificed so much for this nation,” said Koble.
